Spanish is spoken in over 20 countries and has many different accents and dialects! Whether you’re learning Spanish for travel, business, or the DELE exam, understanding these differences can help you choose which variety to focus on.
🌍 The Main Varieties of Spanish
✔️ Castilian Spanish (Spain 🇪🇸)
Spoken in Madrid and the rest of Spain.
Uses the “vosotros” form and the famous “th” pronunciation (gracias sounds like “grathias”).
✔️ Andalusian Spanish (Southern Spain 🌅)
A softer, faster accent spoken in Seville, Málaga, and Cádiz.
Often drops the letter "s" at the end of words (gracia instead of gracias).
✔️ Latin American Spanish (Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, etc. 🌎)
No "vosotros", just "ustedes" for all formal and informal plural cases.
Argentinian Spanish uses "vos" instead of "tú" (e.g., ¿Cómo estás? → ¿Cómo estás vos?).
Colombian Spanish is often the clearest and easiest to understand.
🎯 Which Spanish Should You Learn?
Traveling to Spain? → Focus on Castilian Spanish.
Moving to Latin America? → Learn Mexican or Colombian Spanish.
